Colonial Quito

La Ronda is one of the oldest and most traditional streets of Quito. It was the cradle of painters, writers and poets, especially in the 1930ies. It was in the houses on these narrow streets where many of the nowadays popular songs and pasillos of the national repertoire were written. It was home to politicians, romantics and bohemians. Among the people that lived in La Ronda during the 20th century we find Faustino Rayo, Carlos Guerra and Taita Pendejadas. Nowadays it is a meeting place to listen to traditional music, each bar or restaurant offers live performances of diverse musical groups.

* La Ronda es una de las calles más tradicionales y antiguas de Quito, ha sido cuna de pintores, escritores y poetas especialmente en los años 30. Fue en las casas de esta estrecha calle, en donde se escribieron varias canciones y pasillos ahora muy populares en el repertorio nacional. Ha albergado a políticos, románticos y bohemios. Entre los personajes que habitaron en La Ronda en el transcurso del siglo XX se encontraron Faustino Rayo o Carlos Guerra o al Taita Pendejadas. Ahora es un lugar de encuentro para escuchar música tradicional, cada bar o restaurante ofrecen presentaciones en vivo de variadas agrupaciones musicales.

In the morning:

Visit to the Cultural Center of the Catholic University where we will have rehearsals and auditions for the Zamarrito project. It's coordinator Gaby gave us welcome and put the installations of the center at our disposal.

* Por la Mañana:

Visita al Centro Cultural de la Universidad Católica, donde realizaremos las prácticas, audiciones y presentación del proyecto Zamarrito. Gaby su coordinadora nos dio la bienvenida y puso a disposición las instalaciones del Centro.

After a fruitful meeting with Gaby, we gladly had an "executive menu" for lunch at the Paleo Restaurant, at an incredible 15 dollars for 5 three-course meals.

The first days

Wednesday 20: After a 23:30 hour flight Taro arrived in Quito from Japan via Atlanta.

QUITO

After a pleasant trip we arrived in Quito at 7:00 P.M. My brothers, father and nephew bade us a warm welcome.

* Después de un placentero viaje, llegamos a Quito a las 7:00 P.M.  Mis hermanos, padre y sobrino nos ofrecieron una calida bienvenida.

 Our trip has a very lucky start, Iberia offers us an upgrade to business class!

From the airplane, already close to Quito, you can see the Cotopaxi, 

an active volcano 5.943 metres high.

* Desde el avión ya muy cerca de Quito se divisa el Cotopaxi, 

un nevado activo de 5.943 metros de alto.

Suitcases...ready!

Finally our suitcases are packed! Tomorrow at 4:00 A.M. we leave from Eindhoven to Brussels Airport, transfer in Madrid and at noon we take our flight to Quito!
* Finalmente las maletas estan listas!  Mañana  4:00 A.M. salimos de Eindhoven al aeropuerto de Bruselas, transbordo en Madrid y al medio día tomamos nuestro vuelo a Quito!

Rehearsal

Very happy after our first formal rehearsal. We have many challenges and enough material to study for the next days, all of this is getting very interesting...

* Muy contentos después de nuestra primera práctica juntos. Tenemos varios retos y suficiente material para estudiar para los próximos días, todo esto se pone muy interesante....

Eindhoven Station

Today in the afterrnoon, Yuka arrived in Eindhoven, like always it's a great pleasure to see her again. Tomorrow we have a general rehearsal.
